Crater Lake Exploration

Crater Lake Exploration

30Km south of Fort Portal between the main Fort Portal – Kasese road and Kibale Forest is a collection of Crater lakes.

The Crater Lake in Fort Portal is quite adventurous and liked by many tourists. As you drive from Fort Portal to Kibale Forest you will pass the area of the Bunyaruguru Crater Lakes region.

Here you can simply enjoy the beauty of the numerous small lakes, surrounded by gentle hills, and stunning views. The area is ideal for sports fishing, nature walks, cycling, and a great opportunity to do intensive bird watching. Take a hike at Lake Nkuruba to encounter different species of primates or visit the hidden Mahoma Falls while you meet the local people as you walk through their villages and learn more about the customs of the Batoro tribe.

It’s amazing that crater lakes are bilharzia-free and hence safe for swimming. However, it is important to establish the living creatures within or around a particular crater.
